NEW AGE PITFALLS

Dear Ones,

We will explore today the subtle dangers hidden within the New Age philosophy, a vast and seductive terrain that has drawn countless souls seeking happiness and enlightenment, yet often left them empty and unfulfilled. May these reflections help them at last discover the true fulfillment they long for.

We will introduce the subject by a Baha'i pronouncement, followed by a remark by the apostle Timothy:

How tragic is the record of the substitute faiths that the worldly-wise of our age have created. In the massive disillusionment of entire populations who have been taught to worship at their altars can be read history’s irreversible verdict on their value.

...in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils; speaking lies in hypocrisy.

It all began in the previous century. Disillusioned by the absurdities grafted unto the original biblical texts, some rebellious souls turned away from their religious heritage, and embraced a syncretic mix of practices and beliefs that, for many, became yet another kind of social control.

One of them was the New Age movement, crafted to draw spiritually minded souls into subtle webs of influence and control. You will gauge the gravity of the matter through the words of three emblematic figures of the movement, beginning with David Spangler, former Director of the United Nations Planetary Initiative, in his BOOK, Reflections on the Christ: "Lucifer works within each of us to bring us to wholeness, and as we move into the New Age, which is the age of man's wholeness, each of us is brought to that point which I term the Luciferic Initiation, the particular doorway through which the individual must pass if he is to come fully into the presence of his light and his wholeness. Lucifer comes to give us the final gift of wholeness. If we accept it, then he is free and we are free, that is the Luciferic Initiation. It is one that many people now, and in the days ahead, will be facing, for it is an initiation into the New Age."

Helena Blavatsky, known as the "mother of the New Age" and founder of the Theosophical Society, also proclaimed with disturbing clarity her allegiance to darkness over Light: "Lucifer is both divine and earthly Light, embodying both the 'Holy Ghost' and 'Satan' simultaneously." A prominent figure inspired by her, Alice Bailey, went further by establishing the Lucifer Trust, later renamed the Lucis Trust.

It is worth reflecting on other historical details that cast a sobering light upon the matter.

At the dawn of the twentieth century, the intriguing notion of ancient Aryan masters dwelling in the hidden realm of Agartha beneath the Himalayas captivated many soul-seekers hungry for new experiences and ultimate truths. Central to this fascination was Blavatsky, who claimed she received her "secret" knowledge from them through telepathy, a practice now commonly called channeling.

Meanwhile, figures like Hitler, Himmler and the SS openly embraced occult practices. In barely twelve years, the Nazi regime, nourished in part by the pseudo-mystical teachings of the Thule Lodge drawn from Blavatsky’s writings, led to the death of fifty million people.

And so, a Hitler seemingly possessed by the 'Bearer of Light' would rant: "The task which Christ began but did not finish, I will achieve!"

How could such collective madness take hold of an entire population? It often arises from the fabrications and deliberate deceptions upon which secret societies thrive.

Wasn't it said: "Tell a lie loud enough and long enough and people will believe it"? In our time, renewed efforts to promote the worship of this fictitious deity have allowed Satanism to infiltrate educational institutions under the guise of a legitimate "religion". Even more disturbing, some local government meetings, such as those formerly HELD by the Kenai Peninsula Borough Council in Alaska, have opened with invocation to Lucifer, ending with the chilling words: "Hail Satan!"

Another telling example comes from the 1960s. In reaction to the Vietnam War, the Peace and Love generation arose. Previously unknown rock bands introduced hedonistic ideals to a restless youth: mass protests, communism, personal freedom, free love and psychedelic drugs became the hallmarks of the hippie counter-culture's promised paradise. Yet, mere days before the Woodstock Festival drew half a million souls, a gruesome and widely publicized crime shook the world and signaled the swift decline of Flower Power.

Following their wedding celebration at the Playboy Lounge, Sharon Tate and Roman Polanski indulged in the taboo games typical of their era. Shortly afterward, Polanski directed Rosemary’s Baby, a film that exposed the immoral and dark rituals infiltrating the worlds of cinema, music and power. A year later, Sharon, pregnant with Polanski’s child, met a horrific end in a ritualistic bloodbath carried out by Charles Manson’s followers who had absorbed his psychological techniques drawn from Scientology during his time in prison. He blended these methods with hypnotic techniques and fragments of other esoteric teachings, forging a potent instrument of domination over vulnerable souls. Note the Eye of Lucifer, the satanic symbol displayed by one of the killers at 0:19 in the accompanying VIDEO, a stark emblem of the ideology that inspired their crime.

To further illustrate the peril, let us return to the Peace and Love generation, a movement that appeared spiritual through its call for human brotherhood, yet rested upon a hedonistic ideology that glorified moral relativity and self-indulgence. This worldview led many into shadowy paths through beliefs widely echoed in New Age circles:

Man is merely an evolved animal; let us cast off religious conditioning.
There is no such thing as evil; value judgments must vanish.
Humans are androgynous; heterosexuality is a learned construct.
There exist numerous genders beyond the masculine and the feminine; choose the one that resonates with you.
Abortion replaces contraception; free love is the new order.
We chose our present life; we are simply living our karma.
There is no afterlife; only reincarnation.
We are self-sufficient; we alone are the authority.
Intuition prevails over reason; meditation is the supreme tool of inquiry.
Psychotropic drugs open consciousness; cosmic fusion is the goal.
Lucifer is the Bearer of Light; he grants us enlightenment.
We are co-creators of the universe; we are gods.

As the Guardian expressed it, these are “…ideologies fundamentally at variance with the universal tenets of our Faith,” and indeed with all genuine faiths. In truth, they constitute a direct defiance of God and His divine order, a distortion that replaces eternal values with human fantasies and corruptions, blurring the boundary between truth and falsehood, especially in matters of sexuality, and gradually drawing souls away from all that is noble, wholesome, authentic and beautiful.

While certain New Age beliefs may outwardly resemble aspects of Baha’i philosophy, the crucial divergence lies in their rejection of organized religion and, above all, of any revealed Covenant. This fundamental break is also the secret of the seductive power of the paths proposed by Spangler and others, who foretell that everyone will eventually undergo "the Luciferic initiation." Ultimately, there are two paths: one satanic, one divine, the straight path.

They say: "Where is Paradise, and where is Hell?" Say: "The one is reunion with Me; The other thine own self, O thou who dost associate a partner with God and doubtest."

In essence, the inverted path gently leads individuals away from traditional religion by offering a spirituality stripped of moral responsibility, encouraging self-centeredness rather than selflessness, promoting psychic powers instead of virtuous living, and favoring channeled messages over the revealed Word of God. In extreme cases, “Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light” (2 Corinthians 11:14, KJV).

Whatever our religious background, we must pray for divine protection against such pernicious deceptions and diligently study the original Scriptures, that we may clearly discern truth from deception; for the ARGUMENTS put forth by advocates of such moral relativity can be as insidious as honey laced with poison.
Indeed, there are no shortcuts to genuine spirituality, nor to the essential virtues required for our boundless individual ADVANCEMENT and that of all humanity. As stated in the Baha'i Writings:

We must turn aside from these vain imaginings and suppositions and philosophizings of the world, and fix our eyes upon the clear stream of the Teachings of Bahá'u'lláh.

...the purpose of religion is the acquisition of praiseworthy virtues, the betterment of morals, the spiritual development of mankind, the real life and divine bestowals.

Wherefore, O ye who are God’s lovers, know ye the value of this precious Faith, obey its teachings, walk in this road that is drawn straight, and show ye this way to the people. Lift up your voices and sing out the song of the Kingdom. Spread far and wide the precepts and counsels of the loving Lord, so that this world will change into another world, and this darksome earth will be flooded with light, and the dead body of mankind will arise and live; so that every soul will ask for immortality, through the holy breaths of God.
