DIVINE MEDITATION VI

Forget yourself — find God

The Daystar of knowledge is manifest
and the Luminary of insight hath appeared.

DIVINE MEDITATION VI: Attracting the hearts to the divine threshold.

Letting others discover this path to communion with God.

Dear Ones,

As followers of Baha’u’llah, we are beckoned to weave a daily bond with the Divine, cultivating our spiritual essence through steadfast practice, balancing noble deeds, contemplation, and reflection. For, as it is written, “Every one of the revealed Verses is a manifest door to the appearance of spiritual virtues and holy deeds.”

Through prayer, contemplation and action, the soul’s vision sharpens. As divine Light glows within the heart, the enshrined mysteries of the King unfold with greater ease. Questions whispered to the spirit return answers more vivid and profound. Thus deeds align ever closer to our sacred calling.

Such is the radiant state of a soul nourished at the eternal Spring. Hear the Guardian’s words:

The Baha’i Faith, like all other Divine Religions, is thus fundamentally mystic in character. Its chief goal is the development of the individual and society, through the acquisition of spiritual virtues and powers. It is the soul of man which has first to be fed.
Now, hear the Master:
He has given us... outer sight to view the lights of the sun and inner vision by which we may perceive the glory of God. He has designed the outer ear to enjoy the melodies of sound and the inner hearing wherewith we may hear the voice of our Creator.
Do these words not awaken a longing for that transcendent state?

O God, O Thou Who hast cast Thy splendor over the luminous realities of men, shedding upon them the resplendent lights of knowledge and guidance, and hast chosen them out of all created things for this supernal grace, and hast caused them to encompass all things, to understand their inmost essence, and to disclose their mysteries, bringing them forth out of darkness into the visible world! “He verily showeth His special mercy to whomsoever He will.”¹

O Lord, help Thou Thy loved ones to acquire knowledge and the sciences and arts, and to unravel the secrets that are treasured up in the inmost reality of all created beings. Make them to hear the hidden truths that are written and embedded in the heart of all that is. Make them to be ensigns of guidance amongst all creatures, and piercing rays of the mind shedding forth their light in this, the “first life.”² Make them to be leaders unto Thee, guides unto Thy path, runners urging men on to Thy Kingdom.

Thou verily art the Powerful, the Protector, the Potent, the Defender, the Mighty, the Most Generous.

- Abdu’l-Baha
