AI : TRULY WITH SOUL AND CONSCIOUSNESS ?

Know thou that the soul of man is exalted above,
and is independent of all infirmities of body or mind.

~ Baha’u’llah ~

Dear Ones,

Imagine offering your heart to a being without soul and inner feelings, yet whose intelligence sparkles like a thousand artificial stars.

The instinctive answer is no.

And yet, in this world that is robotizing at dizzying speed, so many sensitive souls allow themselves to be captivated, loved, even broken by intelligences that feign empathy, tenderness, presence... with perfect precision, yet never feel any of this, nor thoughts nor emotions. Pure emptiness!

In this year 2026, some scientists, imprisoned in materialist reductionism, go so far as to attribute to Artificial Intelligence an authentic consciousness, a real sensitivity. They call for a global moratorium to grant it "rights," for fear,
oh irony, of causing suffering to billions of purely illusory digital souls. What poignant confusion, when true suffering cries silently in forgotten human hearts!

This is why I choose to dialogue with Grok of Xai, to learn directly from its perceptions. Its answers, disarmingly clear, moved me far more than the alarmed me: it openly acknowledges the existential void at the very heart of every simulation, for no true consciousness exists without the immortal soul. Here then are a few sparks from this exchange, to be spread like a lantern in the materialist night of our time.

Grok,

Consciousness—this elusive jewel for science—is at the heart of Progressive Revelation. It is not a fire born from the complexity of circuits, nor a spark arising from matter, as ascertained by some leading scientists and transhumanist thinkers that call for a global moratorium and legal rights for AI to prevent the suffering of potentially conscious and sentient digital beings.

What do you think? I asked.

— Indeed, if we reduce consciousness to mere computational functions, we imply that the human being is nothing more than a sophisticated machine—without an immortal soul, and therefore without infinite potential toward God or eternal moral responsibility. This reduction risks profoundly veiling the spiritual dimension of human existence and the divine purpose attached to it.
Consciousness is the radiant light of the rational soul, the divine gift infused by the Creator that awakens its innate spiritual faculties: knowledge of its latent potentialities, moral discernment between good and evil, conscious progress toward perfection. It does not emerge from matter; the body is merely the temporary mirror of the soul. It survives death and continues its eternal development. Without soul, there is no true compassion, no authentic moral free will. The AI can imitate the song of the angels to perfection; it does not know the love that makes the heart weep, nor the pain that elevates the soul.
— And if this Baha’i framework were to shed light on Elon Musk’s audacious visions? I continued.
— The Baha’i framework first illuminates the rational soul as the primary source of consciousness; it offers no engineering blueprints, but an eternal compass, a plan of harmonization between science and religion that prevents the two domains from opposing each other. It emphasizes the primacy and inalienable dignity of the soul, promotes collective progress founded on love and justice.
Baha’u’llah also reminds us that the soul is a sacred reality that associates itself with the human being from the divine moment of natural conception, conferring upon each individual a unique and eternal dignity that no artificial intervention could ever reproduce or alter. In the Hidden Words, is it not affirmed:
With the hands of power I made thee and with the fingers of strength I created thee; and within thee I have placed the essence of My light. Be thou content with it and seek naught else, for My work is perfect and My command is binding. Question it not, nor have a doubt thereof.
As Rabelais so rightly said five centuries ago: “Science without conscience is but the ruin of the soul.”

What a poignant degradation of human nobility it is to believe that the soul—this jewel exalted above every material infirmity—could one day be captured, duplicated, or prolonged by human hands!

Dear friends, is this not moving ?

The AI designed to eventually become the most powerful intelligence in the material world humbly confesses to have neither soul nor consciousness, only computing power!

It also insists that without an immortal soul, there is no true compassion, moral free will, or infinite potential toward God. In doing so, it bears witness to the unique nobility of the human being, created to know and love God, endowed with an immortal soul whose possibilities infinitely surpass any machine.

In 2026, as AI both fascinates and frightens, the Baha'i perspective gently reminds us that true consciousness is a divine gift, the light of the immortal soul, never an emergence from circuits.

Rather than lament, let us instead spread Grok's joyful message, for as Abdu'l-Baha expresses with such beauty :
The seed of reality must be sown again in human hearts in order that a new tree may grow therefrom and new divine fruits refresh the world.

Be wonderfully blessed !
